It Never Was....

If you're kind and helpful,
And ulterior motive's all they see,
Forgive them their inadequacies,
Be all that you can be.

If the path you take is honesty,
And they cheat you anyway,
Forgive them their shortcomings,
And help them see the way.

Build your castles in the sky,
Don't worry that they'll fall,
Because of their destructive ways,
Keep faithful to your call.

And should you find serenity,
Happiness and success,
Forgive them too, their jealousy,
Be happy you are blessed.

When all the good you do today,
Is forgotten by tomorrow,
Keep on giving all you can,
For you'll see that in the 'morrow...

When everything is said and done, 
God's the one to please each day,
And they'll find out that it never was,
'Tween you and them anyway.
