What Does Easter Bring?

by Shelby Forrest  ..........
'Tis the time when Christians in every land
Pause as the angels sing
And thank God for his gracious gift
In the rising of their King.

After his reappearance from
Inglorious death on the cross
His followers rejoiced in the death of Christ
As their gain and not their loss

Hope, not pain, resurrection brought
To disciples no longer bereft
And His Holy Spirit to guide them
To believers he lovingly left.

This light for two thousand years has been
A guide for all mankind,
Its message of hope and love ever there
For those who seek to find.

The enduring Grace of God through Christ
Is free for all to see,
To accept and live a God-filled life
Through all eternity.

Parallels

by Ken Wittig
It seems there is no parallel 'tween modern times and past,
For however hard you try, true meanings just don't last.
December's holiday celebrates, the birth of Christ our Lord,
But it's become a retail circus, that can really leave you floored.

Springtime brings a day that saw, our Lord nailed to the cross,
On the third day he arose again, so we wouldn't mourn his loss.
Nowadays, the world knows Easter as a joyful holiday.
A few, oh yes, but very few, take time to stop and pray.

Kids, just see this time of year, as spring vacation week.
Our schools have taken prayer out, God's name they cannot speak.
Easter's turned into a time of eggs and long-eared creatures.
And a week-long trip to Florida for sun and double-features.

As they did then, we'll all look back, on the error of our ways,
And wish we had remembered what He did for us that day.
It's time to learn a lesson from events of time long past,
And guarantee the world recalls a promise that will last.

Easter Excitement

by Anna Mae Wittig
Chocolate bunnies, marshmallow chicks,
Jelly beans, Watch out, don't get sick!
Colored eggs, for children to find,
And Yes, the Salvation of all mankind.
Pretty spring flowers, a smile on each face,
Excitement contagious, Peace in God's grace,
Parades and new clothes, and new Easter bonnets,
After church, table set, with a great feast upon it.
It's Easter, Christ's risen, rejoice, yes and pray,
And be thankful, He died, to bring peace to this day!

He Gave His Very Life For Us

by Anna Mae Wittig
Thank Jesus now at Easter,
Remember in the days of old,
That He gave His very life for us,
From His tomb, the stone was rolled.

Let us give Him Love and Glory,
For He died to pave the way,
Yes, His death was our salvation,
Now He is Risen, on this day.

So that we might find eternal life,
He suffered more you see,
Betrayed and crucified, He died,
For the sins of you and me.

He paid OUR price, now all He asks,
Is that our lives should be,
A tribute to His sacrifice,
Care HALF as much as He.

Care about Him, and yourself,
And 'bout our fellow man.
Help out one another,
Lend a hand when e're you can,

For one day soon, He will be back,
And on that special day,
He'll gather those who've kept the Faith,
And He'll show us the way...

To Paradise, to Heaven,
(Call it what you will)
Where happiness and Love abound,
And our dreams, He will fulfill.

Let this day be a day of worship,
Like no other in the year,
A day of love and hope and faith,
And prayer that is sincere.

The Easter Break

by Shelby Forrest
When the  last bell has tolled for the Easter Break
From the schools all kids will have fled
But the Easter Break it no longer is called.
It is known as the Spring Break instead

Between church and school separation's demanded
No mention is there of religion.
No symbols of Easter or Christ can there be
There must be a clear-cut division.

To students some schools issue condoms
No standard of morals set there
Abortion for pregnant teens is condoned
But they ban any semblance of prayer

The teaching of family values in life
The schools seem unable to do,
But protected are rights of the criminal
And endorsed by the A.C.L.U.

Just what is all right, and what is all wrong?
Can there be no clear definition?
Is situation ethics the rule of the day
To unfetter and free inhibitions?

There are God-given rights and God-founded truths.
Straight paths which Man can pursue.
But Man needs assistance from God to select
And filter the false from the true.--

Easter-Holy Celebration

Gerry Rothery
I revere stories of His minestry,
Bible stories-fufilled in history.
Leading towards His promised fullfilling,
Obeying-trusting-dying-willing.
I will sing of His Perfection,
Resounding hymns of His resurrection!

I thank Him for the ones He healed,
As His Holiness became revealed.
How He encouraged us to obey,
His Father's commandments, day by day.
I will sing of His Perfection,
Resounding hymns of His resurection!

I will praise Him for the gift He gave me,
That I may live with Him eternally.
And dwell with Him in the Holy Place,
Entered only through God's precious Grace.
There I will sing songs of His Perfection,
Resounding hymns of His resurrection!

Egg On My Face

by Barbara Martin
“Call yourself a Christian”
My mother used to say,
“Until you’ve been to church
You put those Easter eggs away”.

She dressed me in my ‘Sunday best’
And said” behave yourself”
But I was really tempted
To sneak one egg from the shelf.

I knew the stories of Jesus,
And his suffering on the cross,
But being only five years old
I could not equate them with my loss.

When the vicar said “now let us pray”
And all eyes were shut tight,
I pealed back the wrapping
And took one little bite.

Sadly the chocolate had melted,
It ran all down my face,
And when the service ended
I stood there in disgrace.

I think twice now if I’m tempted
To step out of place,
Lest I end up again
With egg on my face!

        The Divine Teacher

   E.R. "Tony" Anthony
Among the greatest of all men
Two thousand years ago,
Revered today as he was then,
Of him we all well know.

Few men of his, or any day,
It truly so appears,
Have influenced mankind the way
He has over the years.

Should pious zeal be only slight,
One still may yet indeed
Think of him as the beacon light
That fulfills human need.

This day we celebrate his birth,
Acknowledging his strife,
And to us all his lasting worth,
For us he gave hs life!

THE GIFT OF EASTER

 By Rick Van Weenen
Pyalong, Victoria, Australia

To give one's life for others, did well sustain their trust
To spread true faith to all who live, from body weak that fell to dust

To suffer, to be slain by man, to whom he offered all
Beckons all the thoughts of man, to one of faith who took their fall

Easter brings a time when we should think of Jesus well
To tell the story to each child of how and why our saviour fell

Te tell them of his courage, his strength which faith did give
To read to them the bibles words by which so many now do live

The time of resurrection when Jesus did return
When many unbelieving the strength of faith did learn

As the Lord from up above again made Jesus live
Was the time when heavens wealth to all of us did give

He rose from death and stillness to move the mighty stone
Then to a world of darkness the light of faith was shown

Revealing to the watchers the man who many grieved
In that moment all the world, salvation had received

So say a prayer to up above, to father and the son
Thank them for all that they share each day with everyone

Be thankful for each little gift that marks this special day
Thank Jesus for the time to come and what will come our way

I SAW IT

By: James A. Kisner aka PoppyK1

Easter morning I awoke still filled with all my doubt.
The others were confused and scared of how it all turned out.
All our plans and dreams were gone our future looking bleak.
Everything we had hoped for with nothing left to seek.

Well I guess that life goes on you do the best you can.
I had hoped He was the one but He was just a man.
Today the air seems fresher as I walked out in the street.
˜Have you heard?" a stranger said as he began to speak.

"˜That man named Jesus that they killed last Friday on the cross,
Nobody knows what happened everybody's at a loss."
˜Someone took His body, others say he rose again,
Some even say He lives and He has spoken to his men."

I thought I spoke to John and Peter early on last night,
They never mentioned anything, this fellow can't be right.
The town is in a frenzy some remember what He said,
They think because the body's gone He came back from the dead.

Many were not there that day when he was crucified,
But I saw the soldier thrust the sword into His side.
I had thought He'd use His power to show He was Lord,
But I knew that He was dead because I saw the sword.

I had to go and see the men to see what they have heard,
Rumors spread so quickly and you can't believe a word.
People love to gossip and spread stories all around.
I know the men are hiding they're afraid they may be found.

Later on that evening when I knew it would be safe,
I went to see the other men to see them face to face.
As I opened up the door expecting to see fear,
They were all excited and they said ˜He was just here."

˜He has given us the Spirit of the Holy Ghost,
He breathed on us and told us that our bodies were His host."
˜Are you all insane?" I said before I turned to leave,
˜Unless I see Him for myself I never will believe."

˜I was there, I saw the nails, they hung Him on the cross,
And the sword that pierced his side, and all the blood he lost"
˜He was dead, I know He was, when I had to leave,
Unless I see the wounds on Him, I never will believe"

˜I will come back a week from now to see if you regain,
Your senses after you recover from your awful pain."
˜All of us are hurting from His loss as it would seem,
But we cannot go on in life while you live in a dream"

Exactly eight days later I went back to check on them.
Hopefully, they've overcome their fantasizing whim.
As I stood among them ˜it is true˜ they did persist.
Jesus came and suddenly was standing in our midst.

Then He looked at me and said, ˜it's true I really died."
˜Come and take your finger and just thrust it in my side."
˜Look upon my hands and see the marks where I did bleed,
And then you'll know I live again and then you can believe."

˜Now my Lord and God, I know and I do realize,
You were dead and live again I've seen it with my eyes."
˜You believe," He said ˜because your eyes are sharp and keen,
But blessed are believers who believe and have not seen."

After this He came to us and taught a month or so,
He showed us many wonders and taught all we had to know.
I am here to tell you that I saw Him die and rise.
It's not a story that I heard I saw it with my eyes.

Thomas
